Intimacy 11: Filming the Scene
That Morning #
You're shooting your intimate scene in a few hours. Here's how to prepare.
- Shower and brush your teeth thoroughly
- Use light deodorant (strong scents are distracting in close-ups)
- If you smoke, try to avoid it
- Never use alcohol or drugs to calm nerves — it's unprofessional and makes boundary-keeping harder
- Don't eat anything strong smelling beforehand!
- How about a quick spray of breath freshener just before the cameras roll?
Blocking the Scene #
You will have already rehearsed the scene beforehand, but probably not on the set. So walk around and get used to where the action will take place and see if anything needs to be changed.
Sometimes at this last moment, the director, or the other actor will come up with a new idea on how to shoot the scene.
Listen to it and then decide if you're comfortable with it.
If not, you have every right to object.
And likewise, if you come up with a last-minute idea and your scene partner doesn't like it, then let it go.
Finally, don't improvise during takes unless it's been agreed beforehand. You wouldn't change choreography mid-take in a fight scene — finish as planned, then suggest changes for the next take.
