A teenage boy in post-war Germany begins a secret affair with an older woman, only for her to vanish from his life without explanation. Years later, now a law student observing war crimes trials, he is shocked to discover she is among the defendants accused of atrocities committed during the Holocaust. As the truth of her past and a hidden secret about her emerges, he is forced to wrestle with questions of guilt, complicity, and his own conflicted feelings toward her.
