Vaincre ou mourir

A French historical epic recounting the life of the Vendéan military commander François Athanase Charette de la Contrie, who led Catholic and royalist peasants in armed resistance against the Republican forces during the Wars in the Vendée following the French Revolution. Charette's campaigns, battlefield exploits, and personal convictions are portrayed as he struggles to defend his people and their way of life against an increasingly ruthless enemy. The film follows his journey from reluctant leader to legendary figurehead, culminating in his eventual capture and execution.
