A lonely academic agrees to trial a humanoid robot designed to be her perfect romantic companion, spending several weeks with the charming and attentive android as part of a museum research programme. Initially resistant to the experiment and sceptical of the concept of artificial love, she gradually finds herself questioning the boundaries between genuine feeling and programmed behaviour. The film, set largely in Berlin, explores what it means to be human and whether emotional connection requires a soul.
