Memory House
(2020)
A Brazilian plantation worker of indigenous descent finds himself increasingly haunted by visions and memories tied to the land he works on, which is owned by descendants of European settlers. As he uncovers a deeper spiritual and cultural connection to the territory, the boundaries between past and present, coloniser and colonised, begin to dissolve in increasingly uncanny ways. The film uses magical realist imagery to explore themes of dispossession, identity, and historical trauma in contemporary Brazil.
