A member of a powerful Middle Eastern ruling family, who has long lived quietly in the United States as a doctor, is drawn back to his home country and finds himself entangled in the brutal politics of his father's authoritarian regime. As violence and corruption close in around him, he struggles between his democratic values and the compromises demanded by life inside a dictatorship. The series follows his gradual transformation as he becomes ever more deeply implicated in the machinery of power he once sought to escape.
