Confirmed bachelor Charlie Harper enjoys a hedonistic lifestyle in his Malibu beach house until his neurotic, newly divorced brother Alan moves in with his young son Jake. The arrangement creates endless friction as the free-spirited Charlie is forced to adapt to suburban family chaos, whilst Alan struggles to rebuild his life and co-parent his witty but academically indifferent son.
