A brilliant but deeply anxious former San Francisco police detective, Adrian Monk, works as a private consultant helping to solve complex murder cases despite being plagued by obsessive-compulsive disorder and a vast array of phobias. Accompanied by his personal assistant, he applies his extraordinary observational skills to unravel crimes that baffle conventional investigators. His emotional wounds are deepened by the unsolved murder of his wife Trudy, which haunts him throughout his work.
