A middle-aged insurance salesman, dissatisfied with his mundane existence, impulsively assumes the identity of a younger man who has recently died, seizing the opportunity to reinvent himself entirely. He moves to a new city, takes up the dead man's job as a mechanic, and begins building a completely different life. However, sustaining the deception proves complicated as he develops genuine relationships and feelings that threaten to unravel the fiction he has constructed around himself.
