West German attorney general Fritz Bauer secretly collaborates with Israeli intelligence in the 1950s to track down Adolf Eichmann, one of the chief architects of the Holocaust who has fled to Argentina. Bauer operates in the shadows because he distrusts his own government, suspecting that former Nazis have infiltrated the justice system and would sabotage any official pursuit. A young prosecutor drawn into Bauer's clandestine efforts must confront both the moral weight of the mission and the personal risks that come with defying the state he serves.
