The American President is aboard Air Force One when a group of Russian ultranationalist terrorists, led by a ruthless general, seize control of the aircraft and take passengers hostage. Rather than fleeing as his captors expect, the President — a decorated combat veteran — remains hidden on the plane and wages a covert one-man campaign to retake it and protect his family. On the ground, his cabinet grapples with questions of authority and whether to negotiate, while the hijackers threaten to execute hostages unless a imprisoned Soviet leader is freed.
