Am Ende kommen Touristen (And Along Come Tourists)
Geregisseerd door Robert Thalheim (2007)
A young German man arrives at Auschwitz as part of his civilian service, expecting a straightforward posting but finding himself caught between the demands of the memorial site, the tourism industry that has grown around it, and the needs of an elderly Polish survivor who witnessed the camp's horrors firsthand. As he struggles to connect meaningfully with both the history surrounding him and the people he encounters, he is forced to question what it means to remember and to bear responsibility for the past. The film explores the tension between genuine commemoration and the bureaucratic, commercialised machinery that modern memorial culture can become.
