He becomes romantically involved with the niece of a wealthy Italian investor whilst uncovering dangerous cost-cutting practices in the ship's construction. The series depicts the social and industrial world of Edwardian Belfast, weaving personal drama among the workers and upper classes against the backdrop of one of history's most famous maritime disasters.
