A newly qualified veterinary surgeon, James Herriot, arrives in the Yorkshire Dales during the 1930s to take up a position with the established but unconventional practice of Siegfried Farnon. Alongside Siegfried's wayward younger brother Tristan, James navigates the demands of rural animal medicine whilst also becoming drawn to the spirited local woman Helen Alderson. The series blends warmth and gentle humour as the characters settle into the rhythms of Dales life and the bond between James and his colleagues deepens.
