Intimacy 06: After You Get the Role
Congratulations! You got the role!
Now you'll get the full script, and it's time to read it through thoroughly.
If by chance you come across an intimate scene involving your character, then read it extra carefully — don't just skim through, hoping they'll sort themselves out.
If there's anything there which concerns you, contact your agent (or the director, if you do not have an agent) immediately to clarify what these scenes involve. Ask specific questions:
- Will we actually kiss, or just imply it?
- What parts of the body will be touched or shown?
- What will I be wearing?
- Where will the camera be positioned?
- Will it be a closed set?
- How will we rehearse this?
Don't be shy about details. Ask for as much information as possible. If anything concerns you or might cross your boundaries, get it clarified now as early as possible.
Don't accept vague descriptions like, “they make out,” but pin down specifics.
And if the director suggests something you're not comfortable with, tell them immediately. In most cases, you'll work out an approach that makes everyone happy.
Because the worst thing that can happen is that you agree to something now, and then change your mind on the day of shooting. That's unprofessional, and you won't do yourself any favours by doing that.
