Intimacy 05: What Happens at Auditions

Face-to-Face Auditions #

Well done — you have applied for the job, and they like you and have asked you in for a first face-to-face audition.

The basic rule here is simple.

No intimacy at auditions.

You might talk about what needs to be done. You might be asked your opinion about certain scenes. But professional auditions won't expect you to kiss, touch intimately, or do anything overtly sexual.

Even if the script says, “they kiss passionately,” a professional audition will accept miming the action or simply saying, “we kiss” and moving on.

(And if the director or someone else suggests anything intimate, then that'a major red flag and you should leave.)

And Second Auditions?

A second audition might take things further. If you're called for a second audition, then you'll be given full details of any intimate scenes, if any.

And just like before, if they cross your boundaries, politely refuse.

It is as simple as that.

Self-Tape Auditions #

Again, the rule is simple:

Never include actual nudity or intimate content in self-tapes.

Professional casting directors understand this completely. Focus on your acting, use clever camera angles, and suggest what's happening without showing it.

Your self-tape represents you professionally, so make sure you're comfortable with what you submit because it will be out there forever.
