How a Production Gets Back to You After You Apply

You have applied to a casting call. If the production wants to take it further, this is how you will hear from them and what to do next.

Where the reply arrives #

Almost always, a production gets back to you through your enCAST inbox. When a message arrives, we send you an email saying who has written to you, with a link. The message itself is on the site, so you always read and reply there.

Very occasionally, a production will write to you by email instead. So keep an eye on both your inbox and your email, and check your spam folder regularly.

A reply can come at any time. It might be minutes after you apply, or months after the casting has closed. Most productions wait until the closing date before they start choosing, and many do not write back to unsuccessful applicants at all. See After you Apply to a Casting on enCAST for more on this.

Keep the conversation on enCAST to begin with #

In the early stages, everything goes through the inbox: questions about your availability, a request for a self tape, an audition time, a query about your languages or your look. Simply reply in the same conversation.

This is just how things are done on enCAST. Everything said is in one place and saved. You have a copy, the production has a copy, and we have a copy. Nobody has to remember who said what or when, and you can find it all again months later. If a question ever comes up about what was agreed, the answer is right there.

If a production asks early on to continue by email, phone or a messaging app, it is fine to ask them to stay on enCAST while you are still discussing the role. Most will happily agree. More on this in Keeping Conversations on enCAST.

When the conversation moves off enCAST #

Once things develop, the conversation will naturally move on. When you are being offered the part and it is time to talk about the contract, the fee, dates, travel or call sheets, the production will need your phone number and email address, and that part of the job will happen off the site. That is entirely normal and expected.

The simple rule: the early stage stays on enCAST. Once you are cast and the practical details start, swap contact details as you would on any job.
