ACRM Tags & Notes

Tags #

Tags are your own free words on a person or project: "Berlinale", "tall", "priority", "method actor". Type them comma separated on the edit form. On the page they stay hidden until you press "Show notes & tags", so nobody reading over your shoulder sees them.

Every tag is clickable and lists everything carrying it, and the Tags page renames or deletes a tag everywhere at once. You can also tag many people in one go from search results; see bulk actions.

Encrypted notes, explained simply #

Pro members get a private notes field on every person and project, and these notes are different from everything else on enCAST: they are locked and unlocked on your own device, with a key that only you hold. What reaches our servers is scrambled text that we cannot unscramble. Not even enCAST staff can read your notes. That is not a promise of good behaviour; it is how the mathematics works.

When you first use notes you are given a recovery phrase of ten words. Write it down and keep it safe: it is the only spare key in existence.

• On a device where you have unlocked notes before, they open automatically.
• On a new device, enter the recovery phrase once. This includes your phone.
• If you lose the phrase and are signed out everywhere, the notes are gone for good. enCAST cannot recover them, because we never had the key.

You edit notes on the edit form; the single "Save changes" button saves everything, and the notes are scrambled before they leave your device. Notes can also be included when you export, unscrambled on your device at that moment.

Appearance, filled in automatically #

For Pro Members, the ACRM looks at each contact's photo and ticks visible traits for you: glasses, beard, hair length, an approximate age bracket and so on, and fills in hair colour when you have not set one. This makes people findable: searching "beard" finds everyone with one. The ticks are suggestions, not verdicts: on the edit form untick anything wrong and tick anything missed, and a value you set by hand is never overwritten. Appearance shows with your tags, behind the same "Show notes & tags" button.
