A young cornet player becomes entangled with a dangerous gangster's mistress whilst seeking fame at Harlem's legendary Cotton Club during the 1930s. Meanwhile, a Black tap dancer pursues his own rise to stardom at the same venue, navigating the racial tensions and criminal underworld that surround it. The two storylines interweave against a backdrop of jazz, violence, and ambition in Prohibition-era New York.
