An art journalist travels to visit a reclusive and nearly blind elderly painter, hoping to write a biography that will boost his own career. As the two spend time together, the younger man finds his self-serving plans complicated by the old artist's eccentric behaviour and unexpected vitality. The journey becomes as much about the journalist's own shortcomings as it is about uncovering the painter's past.
