A young girl ventures into an enchanted alpine realm ruled by Laurin, a dwarf king who jealously guards his magical rose garden and possesses a cloak of invisibility. When outsiders intrude upon his domain, Laurin's pride and temper bring about conflict and ultimately his own downfall. The tale draws on Germanic legend to explore themes of vanity, isolation, and the consequences of placing too much value on beauty and possession.
