A Swiss police inspector, recovering from illness, becomes convinced that a respected local doctor was in fact a Nazi war criminal who worked at a concentration camp. Despite lacking concrete proof and being warned off the investigation, he pursues his suspicions, placing himself in increasing danger. The story explores themes of guilt, justice, and the persistence of evil behind a veneer of respectability.
