A young Sicilian man living in New York during the Second World War is desperate to marry the woman he loves, but her father will only consent if the suitor can obtain his blessing from the powerful Mafia boss who controls the family's hometown in Sicily. Seizing on the Allied invasion of Italy as his opportunity, the young man travels with the American forces to the island, navigating both the chaos of war and the murky world of organised crime in his pursuit of love.
