Engineering an Empire

Directed by Sarah Hutt and Mark Cannon (2006)

A documentary series examining how the great civilisations of history — including Rome, Greece, Egypt and Byzantium — harnessed engineering and architectural innovation to build and sustain their power. Each episode focuses on a particular empire, exploring the construction of iconic structures such as aqueducts, fortifications and monumental buildings. The series considers how these feats of engineering both reflected and reinforced political and military dominance.
