The Double

A timid office clerk living a colourless, unnoticed existence finds his already fragile sense of self under siege when a new colleague arrives who is his exact physical double yet possesses the effortless confidence and charm he entirely lacks. As the newcomer begins to exploit their identical appearance to steal credit, romantic prospects, and ultimately the protagonist's entire identity, the original man's grip on reality and his own existence steadily crumbles. The film draws on Dostoevsky's novella and unfolds in a stylised, oppressively dim world of flickering fluorescent lights and bureaucratic absurdity.
