Piazza Fontana: The Italian Conspiracy
Režie Marco Tullio Giordana (2012)
On 12th December 1969, a bomb explodes at a bank in Milan's Piazza Fontana, killing seventeen people and triggering one of Italy's most complex and divisive criminal investigations. The film follows the subsequent decades-long judicial pursuit of the truth, as detectives and prosecutors attempt to untangle a web of far-right extremists, secret service operatives, and political manipulation. Anarchist railway worker Giuseppe Pinelli is detained as a suspect and dies after falling from a police headquarters window, whilst anarchist Pietro Valpreda is wrongly imprisoned for years. The case becomes emblematic of the so-called "strategy of tension" that haunted Italy throughout the Years of Lead.
