L'ultima tentazione di Cristo

A fictionalised retelling of the life of Jesus Christ, drawing on Nikos Kazantzakis's novel, which portrays him as a deeply conflicted man tormented by fear, self-doubt, and human desires as he struggles toward his divine mission. As he is crucified, he experiences a lengthy vision in which a guardian angel spares him from death, allowing him to live as an ordinary man — marrying Mary Magdalene, raising a family, and growing old. Realising this temptation is a final deception by Satan, he rejects it and embraces his death on the cross, dying in a state of spiritual triumph.
