Project Summary: "Distant" is a psychological short film exploring themes of love, emotional dependence, identity, and coercion. A young woman, Lizzy, emotionally worn down by a long-distance relationship and the false promises of her career-driven boyfriend Mike, is pulled into an intense and manipulative encounter with her childhood best friend, Kira. What begins as a comforting reunion spirals into confusion, betrayal, and irreversible consequences. The film serves as a standalone narrative and a proof of concept for a limited drama TV series.
Who are we: We are a team of young passion-driven filmmakers who aim to bring profound messages and thought-provoking concepts to life, compared to making a film which follows a strict and boring checklist.
While this is a short film aimed to secure funding we guarantee that every detail will be touched to it's maximum professional capacity, so that everyone has something great to add to their portfolio. If we are the right fit for each other on set opportunities in future projects are guaranteed.
Roles
LIZZY (Lead)
Female | White | Playing age: 18–26 | English speaker
Lizzy is kind, emotionally open, and deeply loyal, but increasingly conflicted. A university student trying to hold together a long-distance relationship with her boyfriend, she’s also carrying the weight of a complicated history with her childhood best friend, Kira. Their friendship has always been unusually close—filled with blurred lines, secret affections, and unresolved tension. Lizzy struggles to set boundaries, torn between the safety of familiarity and the discomfort of truth. Over the course of the film, she’s forced to confront her past, her sexuality, and her inability to say “no” when affection becomes control.
Scenes include: emotional breakdowns, psychological tension, straight and lesbian intimacy (professionally handled). Note: All intimacy scenes will be choreographed and filmed with full professionalism, sensitivity, and respect for performer boundaries.
KIRA (Supporting Lead)
Female | White | Playing age: 19–30 | English speaker
Kira is confident, magnetic, and deeply manipulative—an emotionally complex woman who uses charm, affection, and history as tools of control. She and Lizzy have been inseparable since they were girls, but Kira has always blurred the boundaries between protectiveness and possessiveness, care and control. Her attraction to Lizzy has long been cloaked in sisterly affection, but it is rooted in something deeper and more dangerous. Now older, Kira returns during a vulnerable moment in Lizzy’s life, reigniting their toxic intimacy under the guise of comfort and loyalty. This role demands a performer with strong psychological nuance, able to portray both warmth and emotional threat.
Scenes include: emotionally intense dialogue, psychological manipulation, lesbian intimacy (professionally handled). Note: All intimacy scenes will be choreographed and filmed with full professionalism, sensitivity, and respect for performer boundaries.
