A young Ukrainian woman in the 1930s falls in love with a Soviet secret police officer, only to find herself drawn into the brutal machinery of Stalinist repression. The story follows her struggle to survive and preserve her sense of self amid collectivisation, denunciations, and the devastating human cost of the era.
