Intimacy 07: Working with Intimacy Coordinators
Intimacy Coordinators are one of the best (and most overdue) developments in our industry in recent years.
They're trained professionals who specialize in creating safe, comfortable intimate scenes that look brilliant on camera.
Think of them like stunt coordinators for intimate scenes. They work with directors to plan scenes in detail, choreograph physical actions, ensure everyone's boundaries are respected, and provide support throughout filming.
They're becoming standard on professional productions. If your project has one, you're in excellent hands. If not, you can ask if one can be brought in — many productions are open to this now.
What They Do:
- Help plan intimate scenes with the director
- Choreograph physical actions safely
- Make sure boundaries are respected
- Teach techniques for realistic-looking intimacy
- Provide emotional support during filming
- Act as advocates for actors
Working with Them:
- Be completely honest about your boundaries
- Ask questions about anything you don't understand
- Trust their expertise and experience
- Speak up immediately if something doesn't feel right
Intimacy coordinators don't just handle safety — they help create better, more believable scenes. They know techniques that make intimate moments look passionate and realistic while keeping everyone comfortable.
