How Contact between Actors and Productions Works
enCAST connects you with castings. We are not a messaging service that sits in the middle of every conversation. We want to be clear about how contact happens, what we can and cannot see, and why we do not keep a record of everything.
How contact happens #
When you apply to a casting, your application and the details you choose to share are made available to the production behind that casting. From that point, the production may contact you directly, usually by email, to take things further, for example to arrange an audition or a self-tape.
Those conversations happen between you and the production. They do not happen inside enCAST.
What we can and cannot see #
We can see the casting itself and the fact that you have applied to it, and your initial message to the production. That is the part that lives on our platform.
We do not sit inside, read, or record the private conversations you go on to have with a production once contact has moved to email or anywhere else. Once you are talking to them directly, that exchange is between the two of you.
Why we do not store all of this #
There are two reasons.
The first is privacy. Your conversations with a production are yours. We do not think it is right to read or keep a copy of every private message you send or receive.
The second is practicality. We have tens of thousands of users. We could not realistically watch over every single conversation, and we will not pretend that we can. A system that claims to keep every interaction safe would give you a false sense of security, and we would rather be straight with you so that you stay alert.
What this means for you #
Because these conversations happen directly, and because we are not in the middle of them, you should treat any contact from a production with the same care you would use in any professional situation. Be careful about what you share and with whom. Keep your guard up until you are confident the people you are dealing with are genuine.
If a casting, or someone who contacts you about one, does not feel right, walk away from it and report it to us. We cannot police a private conversation, but we can look into the casting it relates to, and we will.
