What to Do If You Don’t Have a Showreel Yet
If you want to apply for casting calls but don’t have a showreel on your profile, don’t worry — you still have good options.
Why It Matters #
A professional showreel is always best, but if you’re just starting out or don’t have enough footage yet, there are other ways to show casting directors who you are. A short video is better than nothing and can help you get noticed.
Make a Self-Introduction Video #
The best alternative is a simple self-introduction video. Just you, talking to camera, for around 30 seconds.
In the video, say:
- Who you are
- Where you’re based
- Your acting experience or training
- Thank the viewer for watching
That’s it — short and simple.
Add a Title Card
Before the video starts, include a title screen for about 3 seconds with your name and email.
Do the same again at the end — leave the final screen up for around 10 seconds.
This helps casting directors quickly see your name and contact info.
Upload and Share
Upload your video to YouTube or Vimeo — both are free.
Then copy the video link and paste it into your enCAST profile under the showreel section.
Why This Works
Even if it’s not a full reel, casting directors can still:
- See how you look on camera
- Hear how you speak
- Get a feel for your personality
This can really help them decide whether to shortlist you.
Extra Tips #
- Use good lighting — natural daylight works great.
- Film in a quiet place — make sure your voice is clear.
- Dress neatly — simple, neutral clothes are best.
- Speak clearly and be yourself.
And when you do get real footage later, replace this video with a proper showreel.
