Let people find you more easily! #

Your personal vanity URL is a short, easy to remember address for your profile on enCAST.

Your profile lives at an address like this:

That is fine for clicking, but nobody is going to remember it, and if you read it out loud people will write it down wrongly.

So you can create your own vanity URL instead, which is short enough to say out loud, put on a business card, or print in your CV:

Both addresses lead to exactly the same profile. The short one simply points at the long one.

Who can have one? #

Vanity URLs are part of Pro membership, and are available to actors.

Once you have claimed your name it is yours and it keeps working, even if you later move off Pro. The only thing you cannot do without a Pro subscription is claim a new name.

What does a vanity URL look like? #

A vanity URL is our domain followed by the name you choose:

For example, encast.me/marey goes straight to Marey's profile on enCAST.

What name can I have? #

Names are unique, on a first come, first served basis. If someone has already taken the name you wanted, you will need to choose another.

The rules are:

• between 3 and 30 characters
• letters a to z, numbers, underscores and hyphens
• no spaces, accents or punctuation
• a small number of names are reserved, such as those that would look like they belong to enCAST itself

Anything you type is tidied up automatically as you go: capitals become lowercase, and accented letters are simplified, so Marêy becomes marey.

Good names include:

• fred
• smith
• fredsmith
• fred_smith
• fred-smith
• parisactor
• mariarossi
• maria_rossi

Think about how the name sounds when you say it out loud. Will someone hearing it be able to spell it? A good test is to tell a friend your chosen name and see whether they can write it down correctly without asking you twice.

Please note that we review the names people choose, and we may remove any that are unsuitable or that appear to impersonate somebody else.

Where can I use my vanity URL? #

Everywhere!

Spread it around so people remember you and can find your profile easily:

• add it to your email signature
• put it on your Facebook, Instagram or other social profiles
• include it in your CV
• use it when someone asks for your details in person, because you can simply say it

What if I want to change or delete it? #

You can delete your vanity URL at any time from the same page you created it on.

Do think carefully first. When you delete a name it goes straight back into circulation, so somebody else can claim it, and anywhere you have already printed or posted the old link will stop leading to your profile. If you are no longer a Pro member you will also not be able to set a new one unless you upgrade again.
