This is how to write a casting call which appeals to the best actors and gets you the best results.

Project Title

Make this short and appealing and telling people something about job.

For example:

• casting for a short film in Paris
• major feature film shooting in Prague
• actor for new feature, "Tonight Dies" (starring Penelope Cruz)

• Production Type - if it's not on the list, contact us so we can add it in
• Location - this is where you accept actors from
• Casting Email - actors will send their applications here (but it's not shown publicly)

Project Overview

Don't talk about roles here. Just the project itself.

Make this appealing. Don't put lots of information.

Actors are not interested in the technical side of the filming. And they are not interested in the whole story (yet). So just give a sentence or two telling them what the project is about.

This is the story of Arthur Fleck, a lonely man with mental health problems living in a harsh city. People laugh at him, and he feels invisible. Slowly, he turns into the Joker, a dangerous criminal.

You must also tell actors roughly when the project will be made and how much they will be paid.

We will film it this Summer. Actors will be paid €500 per day.

Roles #

If you can, keep the roles as simple and generic as possible. 

Give

• Role - the name of the role, e.g. Mary or Lead Role or Supporting role or the lead's boyfriend
• Playing Ages - be open here!
• Gender - if you can, use OPEN so you get the best actors. (Read about gender here.)
• Ethnicity - again, if you can, don't put ethnicity down so you get the best actors
• Languages - what language(s) do you need your actor to speak?

Description

Again, be as simple and direct as possible. 

• Simon is a rich businessman with a secret.
• The shopkeeper is always very happy and willing to help.

And here, be sure to add any characteristics or skills which the actor must possess.

• The actor must be able to surf to a good standard.
• The actor must be over 1.80 tall.

And anything which the actor must know.

• There is some mild nudity in this film but we will discuss this with the actor beforehand and there is an intimacy coordinator on set.
• You will need to smoke in this role.
