enCAST On Your Phone

enCAST works in any phone browser, but you can go one better and install it like an app: an icon on your phone, full screen with no browser bars, and notifications for the things that matter. Nothing to download from an app store. Half of our members already sign in from a phone, and this page shows how to make the most of that.

Install on Android #

Browsers such as DuckDuckGo or Firefox can only make an ordinary shortcut. Use one of the browsers above for the real install, and keep whichever browser you prefer for everything else.

Install on iPhone and iPad #

Only Safari can do this on an iPhone. Chrome and other browsers on iPhone cannot install the app.

What you get #

The icon opens enCAST full screen. Once you are signed in, it opens straight on your homepage. Tick "keep me logged in" when you sign in and the app stays signed in for thirty days after your last visit.

If you use the ACRM, your private contact book, you can give it an icon of its own as well. On Android, press and hold the enCAST icon and drag "ACRM" out onto the home screen. On iPhone, open the ACRM page and add it to the home screen separately. See the ACRM on your phone for the details, including working offline, or start with the ACRM guide.

Notifications #

With the app installed you can have enCAST tell your phone when something happens, the way a messaging app does. We notify you about:

We never send an email for a reaction, and notifications never replace the emails you already get for messages and castings. They simply arrive first.

Turning notifications on #

Each phone or computer is switched on separately, so a laptop and a phone can each have their own setting.

Choosing what you receive, and turning it off #

The Notifications box on your homepage has a tick box for each kind of notification. Untick the ones you do not want and the change applies to all your devices at once. To stop notifications on one device entirely, tap "Turn off for this device" in the same box.

If you have blocked notifications for enCAST in your phone's settings, the box tells you so. Allow them again in the phone or browser settings and the switch comes back.

Removing the app #

Remove the icon the way you remove any app: press and hold it, then choose remove or uninstall. Your account and everything in it are untouched. You can install it again whenever you like.
