Set roughly two centuries before the events of *Game of Thrones*, the series follows the powerful Targaryen dynasty at the height of its rule over Westeros. When King Viserys I must choose an heir, the decision ignites a bitter power struggle between his daughter Rhaenyra and his younger brother Daemon, laying the groundwork for a catastrophic civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. Shifting alliances, political betrayals, and dragon-riding conflict tear the royal family apart across generations, as both factions rally lords and armies to support their rival claims to the Iron Throne.
