A lonely civil servant working in the British Treasury meets a quiet, spirited young woman by chance in a London café, and the two form an unlikely romantic connection. He invites her to accompany him to the G8 summit in Reykjavík, where she becomes increasingly outspoken about global poverty and the failure of world leaders to act. Her passionate, uncomfortable interventions at official dinners threaten both his career and their fragile relationship, forcing him to choose between professional loyalty and his conscience.
