A television drama recreating the 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, in which the self-proclaimed male chauvinist Riggs publicly challenged King, insisting that women's tennis was inferior. The film follows the build-up to the highly publicised "Battle of the Sexes" contest, exploring the personal pressures and media circus surrounding both players, before King ultimately triumphs in straight sets before a massive television audience.
