Peppermint-Frieden
(1983)
A young girl grows up in a small Bavarian town in the years immediately following the Second World War, navigating the confusion of defeat, occupation by American soldiers, and the moral contradictions of the adults around her. Through her childhood eyes, she witnesses the community's struggle to reconcile its Nazi past with the realities of the new democratic order. Her intense friendship with a classmate and her fraught relationship with her deeply religious father shape her understanding of guilt, innocence, and the difficulty of making sense of a world upended by history.
