A young Estonian farmer, Andres, purchases a difficult plot of land in the late 19th century and dedicates decades of his life to taming it, driven by an obsessive belief that hard work and perseverance will ultimately prevail. His struggle shapes not only his own fate but also the lives of those around him, including his long-suffering family and his neighbour with whom he maintains a bitter, enduring rivalry. Based on Anton Hansen Tammsaare's celebrated Estonian novel, the film traces the tensions between stubborn idealism and the harsh realities of rural life across generations.
