Two young people from rival families in Verona fall passionately in love, secretly marrying despite the bitter feud that divides their households. A series of violent confrontations and tragic misunderstandings set in motion a chain of events that neither family can stop. The lovers ultimately meet their end through a fatal combination of bad timing and despair, their deaths finally bringing an end to the long-standing enmity between the Montagues and Capulets.
