The Great Water
Directed by Ivo Trajkov (2004)
A middle-aged man recalls his traumatic childhood in a Yugoslavian state orphanage during the early communist era, where he and the other boys lived under the brutal authority of ideological handlers. He forms a deep bond with a gifted and enigmatic fellow orphan named Lem, whose apparent supernatural abilities set him apart and bring him into dangerous conflict with the institution's authorities. The memory of this friendship, and its tragic conclusion, continues to haunt the man decades later as he confronts his own mortality.
