Teenager Michiel lives in Nazi-occupied Holland during the final winter of the Second World War, where his conflicted feelings about his father's cautious collaboration with the German occupiers push him towards the Dutch resistance. When he discovers a wounded British airman hiding in the woods, he risks everything to shelter and assist him, drawing on help from his uncle Ben. As Michiel digs deeper into the underground network around him, he uncovers a devastating betrayal that shatters his understanding of the adults he trusted most.
