Hungarian-born Hollywood director Michael Curtiz clashes with studio boss Jack Warner and wrestles with his own guilt during the frantic production of *Casablanca*, as his estranged daughter Kitty arrives on set seeking a real relationship with the father who long ago abandoned her. Against the backdrop of wartime Hollywood and the film's chaotic shoot, Curtiz must confront the human cost of his single-minded devotion to his craft. The story interweaves the making of a classic with a deeply personal reckoning between a driven, difficult man and the family he sacrificed for his ambitions.
