A body is discovered in Münster, and the investigators Thiel and Boerne find themselves drawn into a case involving a long-dead local legend known as "Hinkebein," whose supposed remains have resurfaced under suspicious circumstances. As the detectives dig deeper, old secrets and buried resentments within the community begin to surface, complicating their efforts to establish what is actually a modern murder. The case tests the unlikely partnership between the pragmatic policeman and the eccentric forensic professor, whose clashing personalities nonetheless prove complementary in untangling the truth.
