The Counterfeiters

A Jewish master forger is arrested by the Nazis and sent to Mauthausen concentration camp, only to later find himself leading a team of prisoner specialists at Sachsenhausen tasked with producing counterfeit British and American currency as part of Operation Bernhard. Salomon Sorowitsch must weigh his own survival — and that of his fellow forgers — against the moral arguments of a fellow prisoner who sabotages the work as an act of resistance. The film explores the agonising compromises forced upon those who collaborated with their captors in order to live, set against the broader horror of the Holocaust.
