Diaz – Don't Clean Up This Blood
Directed by Daniele Vicari (2012)
On the final night of the 2001 G8 summit in Genoa, Italian police storm the Diaz school complex, which is being used as a base by anti-globalisation protesters and journalists. The brutal raid results in dozens of people being beaten and arrested, with many subsequently subjected to further abuse at the Bolzaneto detention facility. The film follows a range of individuals caught up in the violence — activists, bystanders, and officers — tracing the events that lead to what a European court would later describe as the worst violation of human rights in a democratic country since the Second World War.
