In a near-future Prague where murder victims can be brought back to life provided a recent digital backup of their consciousness exists, a detective investigates the killing of a couple whose restoration raises troubling questions. One of the victims is revived with no memory of the days leading up to the attack, and as the investigator digs deeper she uncovers a conspiracy involving an underground movement violently opposed to the resurrection technology. The case forces her to confront the ethical boundaries of a society in which death has become conditional and identity itself is called into question.
