Radioactive
Directed by Marjane Satrapi (2020)
Marie Curie's turbulent life is traced from her early struggles as a woman in male-dominated 19th-century science, through her passionate partnership and marriage with Pierre Curie, to her groundbreaking discoveries of polonium and radium. The film weaves her personal triumphs and tragedies together with flash-forward sequences depicting the far-reaching consequences of radioactivity, from life-saving medical treatments to the devastation of nuclear warfare. After Pierre's sudden death, Marie must battle professional hostility and public scandal whilst continuing her pioneering research alone.
