Swedish detective Kurt Wallander, still traumatised by a previous case in which he shot and killed a man, is reluctantly drawn back into police work when a lawyer and his son are found dead under suspicious circumstances. The trail leads to a powerful and charming businessman, Alfred Harderberg, who operates from a grand castle and appears untouchable despite mounting evidence linking him to the murders. Wallander must navigate dangerous territory as he uncovers a sprawling conspiracy while struggling with his own psychological fragility.
